My Project

My third-grade students have developed a love of reading, especially books that they find interesting. If in our busy week I forget to send a group to the library, the students will remind me. My students come from different backgrounds and have varying degrees of interactions with books and libraries, but once they enter my classroom, they soon learn that the library is the heart of our classroom and reading for knowledge or for fun is part of our everyday lives.

Through observations and conversations with the students, I noticed that they were gravitating more to graphic novels and mystery books.

I also noticed that even though the classroom library had some of these genres, it wasn’t enough. These books will help enhance our class library, and my students won’t have to wait as long to read a book that they are really interested in. With these books and magazines I will be supporting my students’ interest and let them know that our library contains materials that they want to read.
