Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 5th graders, seniors of the school. However, their reading levels range from kindergarten to 3rd grade. In spite of their learning disabilities, they come to class daily with a positive attitude ready to learn.

My students are super heroes, ready to take on challenges, despite the odds stacked against them.

Our classroom library is composed of chapter books geared towards 4th-6th grade readers. Some do a good job of decoding, but have a difficult time comprehending the text. These students have great potential and if given the right tools can soar academically.

My Project

I am requesting some low level, high interest books to add to my classroom library. The library my students are using now has books that are geared towards 4th-6th grade readers. My students enjoy reading, but they are not able to really understand what they are reading with the books that we have.

All books are great, but books students can read and understand are better.

Students will be using these books to read in class and at home daily. With series books like Cam Jansen and A-Z Mysteries, students are able to build upon their reading skills by paying close attention to themes and characters across a series. When students are provided with books they find interesting and are able to understand, they will be more engaged and excited about reading.
