Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a beautifully diverse second grade classroom consisting of approximately 25 seven and eight year olds from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds. As an entire school community, we strive to teach our students to be SHARKS: safe, high achievers, accountable, respectful, and kind in hopes that those skills will create a positive school environment where students feel welcome and are ready to explore and make growth.

The students in my class, especially strive for positive behaviors and to be high achievers daily!

Of my 22 students 3 receive special education services including speech therapy and additionally 3 others have attention deficit disorders. Like the rest of my young, energetic learners, these students love to engage in many modes of learning, including whole class instruction, small groups, independent technology for reading and mathematics, and buddy work. Improving the classroom environment these students deserve is my number one goal!

My Project

This school year we will receive zero school funding for basic learning supplies (2nd year in a row). My cart is filled with essential items to get through the whole school year and provide my students with the tools needed to fully engage and love learning. The many books you see are necessary in replenishing my personal classroom library after allowing students to borrow books for remote learning during COVID-19.

Giant post-its are useful in creating eye catching visuals that students will actually look at all year!

Colored ink allows the visuals to pop! The name plates offer a personalized touch to my students personal learning spaces and are also great tools!
