My Students

As a teacher in a low income school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face I am looking to provide an exciting learning environment. Our school is a Title I school in an inner city area of New York City. Our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Some of them lives in homeless shelters in other boroughs and have to travel very far to maintain some stability in their lives. Some of them are also learning disabled with Individual education plans.

My Project

Literacy is an essential component to gain success in our world today. Most of my students are struggling readers. Some of them have learning disabilities while others are English language learners. Most of them have no access to books at home.

Having access to a variety of books will help my student practice reading daily in school and at home.

In doing so they will become proficient readers. Proficiency is the key to helping my students successfully navigate higher education and the work world. Our book project will play a vital role in in changing the direction of my students lives.
