My Students

Characters like David and Pete the Cat are two of my students' all time favorites. Wouldn't it be nice if they had their own copies of books with these characters?

Our school is in the heart of East Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY.

The school includes students from Pre-k to eighth grade, and it is a melting pot of descendants from the West Indies. The school is in a high poverty area, and about 95% of the students in the school receive free lunch. There are 18 energetic, three and four year old children in my class but there are not a lot of funds to enrich these students' education because of the budget cuts.

My Project

I am requesting a copy of the story "Wheels on the Bus" and "David Goes to School" for each of my pre-kindergarten students. Both of these stories have characters that keep kids reading their books over and over. Each student in my class will be allowed to take their books home to encourage them to read when not at school.

Many of my students come from homes with little to no books in them.

This project will help me help build my students' personal library. By doing this I will encourage them to become lifelong readers.
