My Project

I love that my students want to learn about themselves, history, and how to be financially secure. They show interest in people and books that aren't widely known. I am grateful my school doesn't censor history and makes space for students to explore personal interests in the library. We have some students who had limited knowledge about how Black people came to the Americas. Some were stunned to learn about the Mid-Atlantic slave trade. They were also stunned to learn about Thomas Sankara and revolutions outside of America. The students really perk up when we have guest speakers share their stories of entrepreneurship and financial success.

When students learn about these topics, their faces light up with processing connections and hope for their future.

I can see that they want to know more. What better way to learn of history and ideas than through reading? These books requested will be added to the school library collection. These particular books have been recommended by guest speakers and requested by students. They will help all students further knowledge about their past and help them get to where they want to be.
