My Students

I work at a Title 1 elementary school with 80% free and reduced price lunches. We have high numbers of English Language Learners as well. I teach all day kindergarten with 36 students, most of which did not attend preschool and are experiencing school for the first time. Many of my students come to school needing food, clothes to wear, and a hug from me. Despite their personal challenges, my students love learning and are eager to come to school every day!

My Project

These books will enable all students to access a variety of text at appropriate reading levels. Children with access to a variety of books are more likely to foster a love of reading, enabling them to read at grade level. Grade level readers are more likely to attend and finish collage. These books are crucial to our success as kindergarteners now and in the future.

The addition of these books to our class library will allow students the ability to choose high interest texts during read to self, as well as allow students to take books home with them.
