This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When you are one of our students, you are part of the family. Our school has a tradition of pride and excellence as well as a tight-knit community. Our students love to participate in learning opportunities of all kinds--especially reading experiences that deepen their knowledge and connect them with others, their community, and with history.
Our students are in two categories: voracious readers or future voracious readers.
Our community efforts are often literacy-centered, service-centered, or designed to enrich their academic curiosities and course work such as exploration, clubs or reading in a group so they can enjoy and learn together. The specific group of students who will benefit from this project are on the ASB (student government) student leadership classes and will use what they learn to lead in their school and community.
My Project
Our library is a thriving hub of learning, resources and connection.
Our students are hungry to read engaging, well-written, well-researched, challenging books.
Despite our technology-saturated world, or perhaps because of it, printed books are in high demand. This trend toward the need for more low-tech learning tools such as paper books, has only growth over the past year during the quarantine and subsequent school building closures. I included books that can be used by students of all levels. Students in Special Education, students in our ELL program, students in AP classes and students in all classes. This list of books are books that our students have specifically asked for; they will be checked out and read by many of our students through our curb side pick up process and in school when we come back to campus full time.
