I am a third grade teacher in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York. Almost seventy percent of our student population receive free lunch. My class room is warm and inviting, yet my library doesn't have enough books that "POP." In my classroom I tell my kids to read books that are on their level or books that "POP." Books that "POP" are books that are fun to read and make you want to read more. They "POP" because every time you think of a book you really like, that book or books pop into your head. They pop interest or intrigue into a student and therefore make you want to read more. By conducting reading interviews and giving book inventories I learn what kind of books "POP" to my kids. The problem is that my classroom library is lacking books that "POP." I am requesting a wide variety of assorted books for my library that I know will catch my student's interest. Some of the books that interest my kids are the Titanic, Holocaust, sports, animals, funny books, and a mixture of stories they have heard me read. I want my students to think reading is fun and I can't do that unless I have the materials to interest them. I love reading and I want my kids to love it too. Thank you.
