My Students

My self-contained 4th and 5th grade students are are excited to learn in new and innovative ways. My students are mostly visual and kinesthetic learners. My Title I school in the heart of Flushing, has a huge focus on Social Emotional Learning to help our students focus on their feelings, and how to self regulate. One way I hope to help my students do this is through exposing them to different experience through the pages of a book.

In my classroom, reading is the gateway to learning, and will open many doors to help my students overcome their learning and social challenges.

My students need my modeling and encouragement to accomplish the goals that I have set for them, and the goals that they have set for themselves.

My Project

In my self contained 4th and 5th grade class, I have a wide range of readers. Most of the students at my Title I school do not have access to books that interest them.

As a first year teacher at a Title I school, I have been working very hard to expand my minuscule library so that I can have books that will engage all of my students, and help them develop a love of reading.

I think that by adding these books to my library, my students will be able to better relate to their feelings and RULER, a program that our school is working on to help improve the social emotional culture of our building. These stories will help my children understand how to be tolerant, and be able to connect to the characters in the stories.

My students will be very excited and proud to receive these books with your donation. I know that they will help my students become better readers knowing that other people care about their education!
