My kids need exciting new books to supplement the boring old fifth grade readers.

As a fifth grade teacher, I'm used to working with the usual school issued reading books...but I will never get used to the kids moaning and groaning about the content. I will never be able to shut out the obvious disappointment in their eyes when they peruse the readers, looking for some kind of excitement...something to motivate them and make them curious. And although these are the best readers our district could afford us, they are not enough.
We need more. We need lively stories, full of excitement and passion. More importantly, the kids need stimulation, and books that will make them ache for more to read.
This is what my request is about...grade level reading books that will wake up my students instead of putting them to sleep! Please help fund my proposal for new books for my fifth graders. They are fabulous kids with a thirst for all things fascinating and new.
New and up-to-date book titles will definitely peak their interest in reading more, and hopefully that motivation will branch out into other areas of study. Thank you in advance for your help!
