My Project

My goal is to make weekly Library visits engaging, fun and something that my students look forward to. New books are a fantastic motivator. Any time a student expresses a love for a certain book or topic, I do my best to get it into their hands. Currently their favorite series are: Dog Man, Dork Diaries and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I added the newest books in these series to this project because my students have been asking for them! I know they cannot wait to read them!

Every few weeks, students participate in Library challenges, this creates a very engaging and focused atmosphere in the Library.

Our biggest challenge is the Silent Sticker challenge. Students are challenged to focus only on themselves, finding the perfect book, checking it out and then reading for the remainder of the time- while not making a sound. This is not an easy task, but has taught them so much about self control. Students are motivated to search the shelves and get right into reading. If they make it to the end of the session, they get to pick a sticker. My current sticker store is running low, so I have added some exciting new stickers that I know my students are going to love. Anything that encourages my students to read and be a better version of themselves is something I want to continue to help them have access to. I have also added white board and chalk board markers for our uplifting signs. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our project!
