Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We are a high achieving charter school in a low income area. Our students work very hard because we expect nothing less from them. They love our weekly enrichment classes because it is a time for them to explore new things and to just have fun.
I am new to our school this year!
We have a very limited budget for supplies; I came into the school to find barely any materials to work with. Our students have been using leftovers from the past year, which doesn't supply us with much! Please help us make a great art program!
My students range in age from kindergarten to eighth grade, and I see them multiple times a week. They are eager to learn and energetic. Our school has an expectation for success in all students.
We serve a lower/working class area in northern Chicago, and parents and community are involved and support learning for all.
My Project
My students will use the art supplies to draw, paint, and create meaningful, expressive artwork! It is my hope that having educational books and inspirational videos will give my students more resources from a variety of media, to help each student tap into their creativity and expression. Projects will allow students to explore their artistic sides.
I would like to introduce a unit on textiles with my older students, introducing the fiber arts. The felting equipment, yarn, roving, and scarves will be used to create artworks that are both beautiful and functional. It will allow me to teach my students using new materials they may have never had a chance to use before, and help them appreciate the aesthetic in everyday items such as clothing and accessories.
Our school has a strong focus on academics.
Giving my students the opportunity to be creative is very important. The arts teach basic fine motor skills, problem solving, thinking for ones self... those skills are just as important when educating a child. Giving them time to be expressive in the arts does just that.
I hope to help my students see the artistic value in everyday objects, to make aesthetic choices and develop a sense of style, and to be more expressive and creative.
