My Students

Last year we were fortunate enough to have a new listening center funded by DonorsChoose, but we now need some books on CD to be able to use it. Many of my students rely on listening to the books to help them learn to read and also for the simple enjoyment the books on CD bring them!

I have a class with 23 second grade students between the ages of 7 and 8.

The class is filled with various learning needs. With literacy being so important and this age being so critical, we are in dire need of extra support and supplies to help them learn! We have a large school with over 700 students grades K-5. Unfortunately the budget was cut so much in education, we aren't able to get the supplies we need to make learning as successful as we would like. I have several ESL children, who have English as a Second Language. Books on CD are critical to helping them become successful readers.

My Project

Having these books on tape will allow all of my students, whatever their reading level may be, to enjoy books they may not otherwise be exposed to. Students would be able to check the books out of my class and take home. Sometimes they don't have anyone to read with them at home due to language barriers or work schedules. Any exposure to books and literacy will increase not only their reading abilities, but their love for reading as well.

These books on CD are so needed and will help provide extra support with my students' literacy needs and reading enjoyment.

The list of books I chose come from a variety of genres which will help expand their exposure to different types of literature. If you can make a donation, no matter how small, my students and I would greatly appreciate your kindness and dedication to the educational lives of our youth.
