This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a first grade public school teacher in a low income/high need community, I try to expose my first grade students to all facets of learning in order to help them meet their potential and enjoy the learning experience.

The foundations of reading and writing are established in first grade.

I have a group of ambitious and eager public school students who love to listen to and read along with books on cd during guided reading, reading workshop, as well as center time. They love to hear their favorite stories come to life as well as learn how to read along with the spoken words.

My Project

Due to the changes in technology, many book publishers are only offering books on CD. I am requesting a variety of books on CD in order to listen to and read-along with during reading workshop and guided reading. My students would benefit from a collection of books on cd for them to use in the listening center during guided reading, reading workshop, as well as center time. They can listen to the books being read aloud and then read the books by themselves during independent reading. In addition, by listening to these books on cd, the students are exposed to new words which they will be able to recall during independent and partner reading as well as use in their writing pieces during writing workshop and reader responses. By using the books on cd, my students will be able to improve their reading skills, word study skills, and writing skills and become better readers and writers.

With you help, you will make it possible for my students to improve their reading skills and word recognition skills by enabling them to listen to and follow along with different books on cd.
