My Students

I have the ultimate pleasure of working with smart, enthusiastic, and hardworking kindergarteners in a Title I NYC public school. Our school services a beautifully diverse group of children, who come to school ready to try new things in order to grow both personally and academically. I am so proud of our loving class, which is part of the ASD Nest program, an integrated approach to teaching both students on the autism spectrum and neurotypical learners.

As an ASD Nest Program school, we believe that our students learn best when the class adapts according to the needs of all its students.

I am looking forward to a school year filled with problem-solving, learning, and growth. I have no doubt that our group of young and insightful students will achieve wonderful things this year.

My Project

Author Angie Thomas said, "It's important to have diverse characters in books because books give kids mirrors and windows. Books create empathy. If we don't have diversity, if we're only showing things from one perspective, how are we creating empathy?"

My goal is to provide stories of people who inspire.

My hope is that these people can act as both the mirrors and windows my students will be looking for. Exposing my students to powerful stories can inspire them to create and think beyond the world they know.

More specifically, I will use these books as read alouds throughout my school year. We will connect with the characters and discuss their culture and traditions.
