Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My kindergarten special education students are experiencing school for the very first time. Each day, they are learning how to be part of a classroom—how to follow routines, express their needs, and engage with academics—while navigating unique challenges related to autism, ADHD, sensory processing, and developmental delays.

What makes my students so special is their resilience.

They work incredibly hard to do what many take for granted, and they deserve materials that support their growth and meet them where they are.

This project—Books Galore—will bring rich, engaging texts into our classroom to spark a love of reading and build foundational literacy skills. Collections like the Dr. Seuss Beginner Books, Bob Books, Elephant and Piggie, and Pete the Cat will help students learn to decode, build confidence, and laugh while they learn. The "There Was an Old Lady" series and National Geographic nonfiction books provide opportunities for comprehension, vocabulary building, and storytelling.

Social-emotional learning books like The Magical Yet, Kindness is My Superpower, and The Kids’ Book of Diversity will help students build empathy, emotional vocabulary, and a better understanding of themselves and others. These books are especially important for my students who struggle to name and regulate big feelings.

Art supplies like Do-a-Dot markers, Colors of the World markers, and short thick pencils will support writing and creativity as we respond to books through drawing, labeling, and storytelling. The dry erase pockets and binder rings will help organize materials for small group and independent literacy activities.

By donating, you’re helping build a classroom library that reflects diverse learners, supports emerging readers, and invites every child to fall in love with books. Thank you for believing in them—and in me.
