This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hungry for books! We are a brand new school in a low income district. Our school is beautiful, but lacking in the book department!

93% of my students are enrolled in our free and reduced lunch program.

Many of them come from homes where their parents do not work at all and have very little education. They all LOVE to read, but do not have the resources at home. I would like to give them those resources here at school! I have some chapter books that people have donated to our classroom, but with classes of 20 or more, I do not have enough to go around to all of the children.

My Project

With our new chapter books, children will be able to increase their comprehension skills and fluency. They will be using these books to practice what we have learned in class and increase their fluency. They will use them for book reports, literature circles, presentations, and general reading.

These children are trying to improve their reading skills so they can be successful academically and eventually graduate and go on to college.

I want to keep their love of reading alive with interesting, enjoyable, and age-appropriate reading books!
