Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach deaf and hard-of-hearing students, students with autism, and English Language Learners in a high-poverty, Title I school. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch everyday. They face many challenges in their lives, including learning the basics of reading, writing and math.

My students have a lot to overcome, but they are rising to the challenge.

Once my students realize they can learn, their learning takes off and the possibilities are endless! As a teacher, it is so rewarding to see students who once thought they can't, now realize they can, and it is my joy to guide them towards that realization.

My Project

We become readers by reading. As a K-5 teacher, I aim to keep a well-stocked classroom library for readers of multiple ages and abilities. When students find books they enjoy, they want to read more; and the more they read, the stronger they become as readers.

My students have become hooked on reading, and they are begging for more.

Two of the current favorites for my 3rd and 4th graders are the Dog Man graphic novels and the and the Arthur chapter books. My 1st and 2nd grade students love Biscuit and easy-to-read books based on Disney movies, especially Toy Story and Cars.
