My Project

All of the items chosen are preferred titles and beloved characters. The students earn gold coins each week for showing our Pioneer Principles of Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe, and Progress as a Learner. Each student's name is read of the intercom and students use their gold coin to purchase a book from our book vending machine. This is a HUGE hit for the students each week! With the new addition of the titles, we could celebrate students more than once a week and connect to their reading goals.

Each student participates in small groups within their classroom to focus on individualized reading skills.

These skills are progress monitored every two weeks. Students are involved in monitoring their scores and seeing their growth. The staff has worked to build student ownership in their learning and to explicitly teach what "Progress as a Learner" looks like and sounds like in their classroom. We know the students are working hard to meet their goals and we'd love to be able to celebrate small milestones, along with the larger milestones. Our goal as a building is for every student to show average to above average growth in reading, regardless of their abilities. In order to do that, we need our students to have high-interest books in their hands and in their homes.

This addition to our vending machine would help us to build a school of avid readers and instill the love of reading.
