My Project

These novels are written for language learners with leveled vocabulary, illustrations, and extensive glossaries. They include fiction and nonfiction. Their themes vary from sports to history, from drama to mystery, from culture to environmentalism, and more! Students will spend many hours in their second semester using this library to grow their Spanish at their own pace with the reading materials of their choice.

By giving them a wider range of books to choose from, my goal is to help students not only explore the joys of reading, but grow their Spanish language immensely while they do it.

Research confirms time and time again that reading comprehensible texts accelerates students’ language acquisition process, even more so when students can select the readings of their choice. Our library currently features about 50 titles, and with your help, we can add almost 30 more! Such variety will mean more student agency, more ways to fall in love with books, and more exposure to rich but accessible Spanish language.

My students are ambitious and mature. We have spent the first semester learning about each other and building trust. Each of my classes, from Spanish 1 to Spanish 3, has read a novel together as a class; now they’re ready to explore these books independently. Help me give these students more stories to explore, to experiment with, to learn from, and to enjoy.
