This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"All children are artists. The only problem is how to remain an artist once they grow up." Pablo Picasso once said these words and they have always stuck with me. I always teach my students art with an intent of longevity. How can they use the techniques outside of my room and beyond the elementary art years?

My students have a burning desire to learn, create, design, discover, and explore in my room.

They are artists and achievers. I know 100% that my students will use, do, or create art for the rest of their lives!I read a book in each of my classes every day. I believe literacy is important. If I can read books to my students in art class, it is another area where they can receive literacy! My books usually are pertaining to the lesson I am teaching or to a SEL strategy. Having a good emotional response and learning SEL practices are great skills to equip students with will help my students long term. So whenever I can combine the two subjects together, I do, because Reading is for life and so is art!

My Project

I read a book to start every lesson in my art class! I believe that this really helps our students know that literacy reaches every classroom, even the ART ROOM! It is such a joy seeing my artists faces light up with inspiring books, especially when they pertain to the lesson that I am teaching that day too! I will always use literacy in my room for each lesson and truly believe that this will make my students become better readers, listeners, and communicators! READERS WILL ALWAYS BECOME THE BEST LEADERS!
