My Project

Story time is the most engaging time in my classroom. My class is a self contained class where most of the students are autistic. Read alouds give a time that we all engage and learn from each other. There are large amounts of class participation and discussions. The non-verbal students or students with limited abilities still become part of the whole class learning. We do week long, or longer, activities and end with fun art projects. The books also cover each season of the year. These books will allow us to come together as a group and add that extra joy in reading and learning.

The social emotional books will help develop that additional skill of self and social awareness.

Books like "The Power of Yet" will guide them to believe in their own success.

Watching children get excited from seeing books coming to life gives me such joy. These books are selected based on what they can learn from the underlying meanings of each.
