My Project

My students are in need of books that are more appropriate for their reading and development age. I am a teacher at a school for children with disabilities that does not have its own library. Many of my students do not have access to books outside of the classroom, and many books in the classroom have severe wear and tear. The books that I chose are age appropriate, engaging and allow for activities to create after reading.

These books will help my students advance in their reading and language skills needed in daily life.

For example, when reading “the old lady who...” books, my students learn decoding, reading comprehension, sequencing, labeling and many more important tools for language development. We also use materials such as puppets, and sensory bins (i.e. pom-poms, beans, etc.), to make the books more interactive to keep my students engaged in the lesson.

Acquiring these books to teach my students will help them answer “WH” questions, sequencing, reading, phonics, and story retell. Many of my students have difficulty with decoding words as well as sequencing story events. These tools will develop their skills.
