Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Here at our school, I have the privilege of working with some of the best students in New York City. What I love most is being able to witness each student reach his/her own potential.

Sometimes it's over the course of a school year, sometimes it takes a little longer, but when students enter my class, no matter what struggles may stand in their way, they will see that through reading, writing, speaking and listening; anything is possible.

I work with many amazing students who come from a variety of backgrounds, interests, talents, challenges and more. Throughout the course of the year, I thrive on watching each student discover more about their identity as they interact with different texts, creative writing, and each other via discussions and activities.

My Project

My classroom library is diverse in terms of genre and topics, but what my classroom library is missing is literature for struggling readers.

The books in this project include the entire Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series, comic books, and more!

Daily independent reading is important for our students, as it increases their vocabulary and allows them to become engaged with a book they actually enjoy and can read. Visual images help support comprehension while also engaging reluctant readers.

These books will aid in supporting students who like picture books and ultimately will lead them to choose more challenging books in the future.
