My Students

A typical day in a transitional kinder starts with excited kids bouncing through the door with eyes bright and eagerness to learn shinning through. Most of the students in class have very little or no school experience I hope this year is one that will drive them to want to come to school next.

The students in room 11 love to learn!

They get excited each time I bring out a book. The students come from the inner city , many of them have only one parent at home who is struggling to make ends meet. Our school is a wonderful place with loving and caring teachers who work hard to give the kids the best education. We have a very supportive leadership team and wonderful parents who are willing to donate time to help in our classrooms. Money is short in our school budgets, fundraising does not bring in much and our parents do not have resources to donate very much to the classes.

My Project

This project requests copies of Knuffle Bunny Free: An Unexpected Diversion, Otis, Snowmen at Night, Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, David Goes to School, Knuffle Bunny, Chrysanthemum, Tacky the Penguin, Pumpkin Jack, Bat Loves the Night, Ice Bear and The Snowy Day. The students will use these books to learn reading comprehension skills and strategies such as prediction, connecting to the text, retelling as well as the parts of a book and the characters, setting problem and solution in each story. They will be read the story and taught reading skills and strategies. They will then use the books to retell partners about the story pointing to the characters , problem, setting and solution. They will use the books to show where the cover, back cover and title page are located.

These books will bring happiness to the students and much need resources for the teacher.

Our classroom will become a well read group of future leaders with the reading skills they will need to be successful in the future.
