This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students and I are continuing the process of transitioning into distance learning! Part of this process means ensuring my students have access to the materials needed for distance and hybrid learning. With your help, I'll make sure that my students and their families have access to basic materials to learn from home.

My Project

At our middle school, we have a daily habit of reading for pleasure. Every day for 25 minutes, students get to pick anything they'd like to read for enjoyment. Since we don't have a library, we are building robust classroom libraries! Over the past year, we have gradually been growing our collection of books so that students have greater access.

Now that we are transitioning to hybrid schooling due to COVID-19, we are making our classroom libraries available for students to check out and take home.

This is especially important to help mix up the day with on-screen/off-screen time. One of the things we've noticed is that after spending a lot of time on their computers, students gravitate towards picking up "real" books when they are available.
