Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a high-energy, eager group of learners from the Fresno area. In my class, I use a mix of hands-on and digital resources to capture my student's imagination and fully engage them in their learning.

The difficulties the pandemic posed for our students really highlighted how important our school is for both their personal well-being and for the larger community we are a part of, so I want to continue to enrich their school experience as much as I possibly can.

My Project

During our period of online learning, many of my students did not have the same opportunities to engage with literature as they do normally. To address this, I have made time in our schedule to read novels together as a class and use them as a tool for teaching literacy and comprehension skills.

This activity has been the highlight of the day for many of my students, and each time we have finished one, they eagerly ask me what the next book will be.

So far my class has read Tuck Everlasting, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and Sign of the Beaver. We plan to move onto Bud, Not Buddy next. My project aims to continue what we have started with two additional sets of books to be used after that.
