My Students

This year my district has set up a virtual academy for students and families who want to stay in virtual learning, and I am teaching fifth grade virtually again! I loved it last year and my students really thrived, despite the challenges we faced. I teach at a low-income urban school district and many of my students are performing below grade level.

My students are doing very well with virtual learning, they're trying very hard to learn to navigate the digital world!

They love being competitive at the end of each lesson - they're also great at utilizing teamwork and positive talk when participating in class!

Regardless of the challenges, my class is full of smiles and laughs! Now we just need some supplies to keep them having fun while they learn!

My Project

Our ELA curriculum relies heavily on only certain books, but my students love when I pull out some books to work with during our community circle time and they are great to use for targeted instruction in our small groups and intervention times.

I love using illustrated children's books to create lessons because it is not only quick to read but there is always so much versatility when it comes to instruction - and students are always so engaged!

I did add a couple of chapter books that I would love to make into a longer study for my students and apply it in multiple content areas as we read it a little each day. My students may not profess to love reading, but they are ALWAYS excited when I pull out a book and read to them. I'm hoping having more books in my inventory will only help foster this love of books until they leave my class saying they also love to read!
