My Students

I teach science in a school in Brooklyn with a 59% poverty rate. My students need more books that can support their scientific inquiries.

I work with 230 pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade students.

They are full of questions, love to experiment, observe, and learn more about the world through science. They are wonderful young scientists in the making who always want to learn more.

My Project

I believe that students in my science classroom need to observe, experiment, and pose questions as well as to read books. I need a science library with books that I can read to my students and books that they can read themselves that support my early childhood curriculum.

This year started with big budget cuts in our school and we can't afford to buy a new library of science books for my class.

I believe that literacy needs to be incorporated across the curriculum and that it is especially important to have the appropriate age and subject level books that can engage my students in my room. By donating these materials to my classroom, you are helping me foster my students' love for inquiry and science.
