Books For Kids

Help me give my students some books. I'm trying to teach a book to some of my ENL students and these will help them. The other books are books that specific students asked for.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at our school are a special group of middle school students. If you have ever met a middle school student then you know that often they are filled with an amount of energy and curiosity that, if tapped, could power a small town. Many of my students' families struggle to support their child's well being and significant numbers of my students are recent immigrants. Our school is faced with meeting the needs of a diverse student population that is consistently struggling financially and academically at-risk.

This has not hampered our students' eagerness and desire to learn and our teachers' devotion to teaching, but our school needs as much help as it can get.

Many of these students struggle to make it to class on time because they are trying to get their younger siblings ready for school. Many of my students are often a major caregiver for their younger siblings.

My Project

This is a simple project. I have about six or seven kids who are in my class and they don't speak English. The book that I've been assigned to teach them doesn't really work. There are no pictures and it doesn't come in any other language.

This is where you come in.

I found a graphic novel that can help me with teaching them the skills they need to while still using the curriculum that's been assigned to me. I'm hoping to keep these books for as long as we use this curriculum. The other books are books that students asked for. My goal this year is to have every one of my students ask for a specific book of their choosing and get that book into their hands. This project has two of those books.
