My Students

When I see my students, I often wonder who they will become. They aren't just kids. They are tomorrow's leaders, workers, teachers, artists, doctors, builders, and coaches. My hope is that a love of learning and reading will grow in them this year and for years to come.

My 15 amazing students come to school curious, excited, and eager to learn.

I want to provide them with a variety of quality, engaging books.

What I love about my students is how wholeheartedly they are already embracing reading - even though the school year has just begun. Thanks to Donors Choose.org, I was able expand my classroom library last year to include a greater variety of updated, more engaging books. However, it isn't quite enough. The students are reading up the books I have and asking for more! Non-readers have become readers! Students are buzzing about books! They recommend titles to each other and often are reading one book while planning what to read after that. However, we need more books to keep the momentum going.

My Project

These books will be available for students to read daily in the classroom during independent reading time, but they will also be allowed to borrow them for use at home. For example, some children do not have access to engaging books at home, do not own books at their reading level, or do not have transportation to a local library. Our classroom library is a critical resource for feeding hungry, growing readers.

As a fourth grade teacher, one of my goals is to connect children with books they will love.

Even the most reluctant, struggling readers thrive when they meet the right books. Expanding our classroom library gives students a far greater chance of developing a love of reading.
