I teach literacy at a middle school within a high need community in New York City. When most people hear that I teach middle school the usual reaction is, "Wow, that's crazy!" Honestly, it's not.

Going to work each day is a pleasure. No, I'm not kidding. I have great students who are eager to learn, but do not necessarily have the means go out and buy their own materials. I teach Literacy, and therefore must have a classroom library full of books to motivate and capture the interest of my 8th graders. With so many budget cuts and our teacher's choice money cut 40% it is going to be nearly impossible to build my library without help. That is where you come in.

I teach students of many different reading levels. I need to make certain that I have titles that reach all of my students. By funding my proposal and purchasing new, current, and exciting titles for deserving students you are making far more than a monetary contribution.

You will make it possible to put books into the hands of students who need to believe that yes, a stranger believes in them as much as I do. Your help will ensure that these remarkable young men and women know that they do in fact deserve a beautiful classroom library too.
