My Students

Every day I see students in kindergarten through 5th grade who love coming to the library. They're excited about learning. They ask big questions and share insightful thoughts about the stories, events, things, and people we talk and learn about in our library.

One of the many highlights of my job is hearing excited whispers when students eye books they want to check out upon entering the library.

It is a wonderful thing to watch a child select books that he or she is excited to read.

My Project

A fully funded project provides new books for my students to check out and read. We are at the point in the school year where the appealing and high-interest books are in circulation. Many of my students will leave the library without a book because "all of the good books are gone." I can't disagree with the sentiment. A fully funded project allows me to stock the students' library with books they are eager to read. There is strong evidence that reading for pleasure and having a choice in what one reads positively impacts students' academic gains and how they relate to others.
