My Students

My students come from extremely diverse backgrounds.There are students who have fled war-torn countries such as the Ukraine, Russia and Israel to first generation Mexican-Americans, to students dealing with Asperger's, a myriad of learning disabilities and students who may also be in advanced stages of disease.

Through all their struggles and anxiety, they are extremely resilient and come to school every day with hopes of a better future.

Many are new to reading. Often they'll tell me they haven't read a complete book since they were in elementary school.

My Project

I've been teaching 26 years and know the value of a high-quality classroom library. These are books that I have personally read, recommended to students and watched them go from students who hadn't picked up a book to voracious readers. Hence, students rely on these strong works of Y.A. literature in my room, and unfortunately, after years, many of my class copies have been lost or in tatters. This set will give student the books they have been craving for a long time, but are not finding anywhere else. With these books, I know, students will go on to a love of literature.
