This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class is full of bright-eyed, beautiful children who are excited to learn. The majority of them are low-income and many of them are coming to pre-kindergarten/Kindergarten already behind. They are ready and eager to learn new things and to have new experiences.
Our school is located in the city of Detroit and we are a Title I school where all of the students in the school qualify for free lunch.
Many of our students eat breakfast at school as well. This is the beginning of their educational experience and I want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful.
My Project
All students need books to read in their homes. I am hoping to create lifelong readers by giving all of my students books they can treasure. This school year is unlike any other we have seen.
It is more important now than ever for children to have books in their homes.
We will be studying the author Donald Crews and this project will allow each child to have at least 3 of his books. Each child will receive an easy to read book they can follow along or read all by themselves.
