My Students

I currently teach at a public school in Brooklyn, New York. The students in my class are thoughtful and enthusiastic learners. They come to school every day prepared for challenges and they strive to be their best selves. They are kind and deeply care for their school community. They like to have fun, to be engaged, to have their voices heard and to share their opinions. They like to be challenged and to feel supported. They inspire me every day.

My Project

The students in my class are avid readers. On the first day of school many of them want to know when they can start "book shopping" from the classroom library. I strive to create a classroom library that is accessible and has a range of books with characters of different races, genders, family structures, nationalities, ethnicities etc. I want the children in my class to be excited about the books that we offer them. My hope is that my students can find a book that mirrors their identity, and a book that is a window into another person's life.
