This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Reading has always been a passion of mine, and as a teacher, one of my greatest joys is sharing that love with my students. This year, I’m embarking on a new journey, transitioning from teaching special education to a third-grade classroom. While this transition is exciting, it comes with the challenge of creating a classroom library that reflects the diverse needs and interests of my students.

A classroom library is more than just books on a shelf—it’s a sanctuary of possibilities.

It’s a place where students can discover new worlds, see themselves in the stories they read, and gain a deeper understanding of others. A diverse and well-stocked library ensures that every child, no matter their background or ability, can find a book that speaks to them.

My background in special education has taught me how important it is to create a supportive, inclusive learning environment for all students. As I move into general education, I want to bring that same focus into my third-grade classroom, ensuring every child feels represented and inspired. With a library full of engaging and diverse books, my students will have the opportunity to grow not only as readers but as thinkers and dreamers.

I’m asking for your support to help bring this vision to life.
