Books for Boys!

My students need over 40 new books, some in sets, to jump start their love of reading. A mix of high interest non-fiction and compelling novels will help catch their interest! Examples are "Percy Jackson and the Olympians," "The Lost Hero," and "Harlem Stomp."

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every young mind deserves to discover and dive into books that totally engage and envelop them in a new world. Many of my male students struggle to find texts that create this magical world for them. I hope to add to my non-fiction collection to help engage my male students.

My students are mainly low-income minority students who want to learn and be successful in school.

Many of my students are working to get to their grade level in reading, and can struggle to find texts that they enjoy reading. They work hard in school and set goals for themselves to achieve in the future. Our school is a warm and welcoming place, and our staff is dedicated to meeting the needs and challenges our students present.

My Project

I have specifically chosen texts that match my students interests. There are many informational and biographical texts about historical figures and events. Many of these books are structured not only in a way that is interesting to young readers, but also helps them practice the skills and strategies needed to decipher informational texts in their content area classes and standardized tests. There are also high interest novels that have proved popular with male readers.

Although I buy as many books as I can for my classroom, I cannot buy all the books my students are requesting and seeking.

Your donations will help me meet my students needs! Help me help them become strong, proficient, knowledge-hungry life-long readers that think critically about our world!
