Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a speech-language pathologist. I work with a diverse group of young students in speech therapy, ranging from age 3 through 11 in grades 3K through 5th grade who present with autism spectrum disorder, emotional disturbance, articulation and language disorders.
I started this project in order to provide my students with materials that can help them access the curriculum despite their obstacles.
Many of my students are from low-income families, shelters, immigrants, and have experienced trauma at such a young age. My students would benefit from the materials in order to help learn their ABCS, letter sounds, vocabulary, and how to read. I do not get funded printing ink and often have trouble being able to have materials ready for my students. The stickers and prizes help reinforce good behavior and act as a reward for my students when they are successful in speech. The laminating papers, Purell, and power surge will also assist with keeping the classroom tidy, making sure all of my students' devices can be charged accordingly as they often die, and being able to make my materials more creative with the laminating paper!
