My Students

The students that will benefit from this project range age 5 to 9. They are kids from a small urban community. Each student has different academic needs, represents a different background, and has different goals for the future. This project will focus on independent learning skills aided by freedom of choice.

The students in this group have a variety of abilities and disabilities including specific attention deficits, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and emotional disorder.

We have to work on self-regulation and communication skills on a daily basis.

All of our students come to school with a history of adverse childhood experiences. The number of students with autism spectrum disorder or emotional disorder in the classroom is on the rise. Half of my case load falls into these 2 categories.

My Project

This selection of beginner level books will be added to the classroom library for all students to utilize. Students that struggle with reading are more likely to enjoy reading when they have books of interest at a level that they can read independently.

Students will love the STEAM books selected.

Our school is a STEM school. We try to incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math regularly in lessons with hands-on activities when materials and time allow.

The students will be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help the students grow stronger in reading.
