Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The best way to get better at reading is to read! Some of our students love to read while others see it as a chore, or worse, a punishment. Book lovers, both students and teachers, decided we wanted to share how fun reading can be. Students worked together to decide on a book, and after reading a few descriptions, they overwhelmingly agreed they wanted to read The Outsiders! One student, who previously stated he was only there for the snacks, expressed that, "I actually really want to read this".

Our goal is to bring together all types of readers to promote literacy in a low-stakes, fun environment!

We meet once a week to discuss the book, make predictions, connect it to real life, and eat snacks! Book club at Arts and Tech is a great way for teens to make friends while developing a love for reading. Please help us get enough books so that every student can have their own copy to take home!
