My Students

Our school is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Magnet school with a diverse population that reflects Los Angeles County. Half of my students ride the bus in from various parts of Los Angeles County. Most of our school receive free or reduced-price lunch.

My students are motivated and diligent students.

I not only have an ethnically diverse class, but I also have a class with varying academic abilities. I have students who have been identified with special needs as well as students who demonstrate strong academic capabilities. My students come with a keen interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Our school's goal is to prepare every child to be college and career ready, especially in the areas of STEAM.

My Project

Books have the power to become "mirrors, windows and sliding doors" for students to see themselves, view different worlds from their own, and access a world they would never have without books. My goal is to build a class set of books that reflect the diversity of identities and cultures represented by my classroom.

I carefully chose these books that embrace different identities and cultures to create a sense of belonging, inclusivity, and acceptance among my students.

I plan to use these books during Interactive Read Aloud as a shared reading experience to provide meaningful opportunities for students to enjoy and learn from rich literature as well as to build my classroom community.
