Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 5th grade students are eager and ready to READ! My students are drastically below the norms, and the supplies given to us are way above their reach. With a little help, we can climb that ladder of success. Ready, Let's Read! Putting a book in little hands shares so much imagination.

My 5th grade students face many challenges before entering my classroom.

Finding a book at their reading level should not be one of the challenges, Despite the fact that my students are drastically behind the grade level norms of their peers in other towns, we have a culture of achievement and focus on the positive outcomes that happen every day. My hope for my students is that by the end of this school year, they will believe in their abilities as much as I do and will explore opportunities that they may not have otherwise envisioned.

My Project

In my classroom, we use the Reader's Workshop model of literacy instruction. Through this program, students read and practice comprehension skills in books that are at their independent reading level. Unfortunately, 100% of my class is reading behind grade level norms. For this reason, we are in need of books that my students are able to read and comprehend. I am asking for a 4th grade Classic Leveled Library, 4 different nonfiction leveled book sets, and 10 colored book boxes. These books and book boxes would provide my students with what they need in order to be successful in reading.

Having these books in my classroom would make a huge difference in the lives of my students.

With these books, students will have access to high-quality books that are suited for their levels. My students are excited to make growth in reading and need the resources in order to learn and grow!
