Our school population consists of a large percentage of students qualifying for a free lunch.
I would like to encourage my students to read nightly.
Our students have a limited access to a variety of reading sources with the elimination of the Library Specials period. The more access to these materials will allow my students to become a stronger lifelong readers.
Another great feature of take home books is that students can take these stories with them to read and share with families which encourages at home communication and discussion about reading.
My Project
My students will have the opportunity to read nightly which will allow them to become more fluent readers. Parents and their children will be able to sit down and discuss a story their child is reading. The books will allow the students to grow with their vocabulary. It will allow them to read stories at the level they are on and practice words learned within the classroom. Also, my class take AR tests, this encourage the class to read stories and gain as many points as they would like too.
Finally, it will improve with Comprehension, a skill that is extremely important in First Grade.
