Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Reading is the key to success! Studies show that children who read often increase their vocabulary by 4,000 to 12,000 new words per year. Each time students read; they improve fluency, oral, spelling, and reading comprehension skills. Providing students with the resources they need will make growth a greater possibility.

One way to ensure student success is to provide them with the resources they need outside the classroom.

I want to help develop home libraries so each student has opportunities to increase their chances of succeeding at accomplishing their goals. Many of my students have reading delays but want to be successful. They are developing a positive growth mindset, as they work to reach their individual goals.

The plan is to give families book bundles that can become part of their home library for as long as they like. Families will be encouraged to provide a special area where the family can interact with the books. The hope is that families will connect while disconnecting from their electronic devices. Developing a culture of reading at home will support everything they are learning at school.
