Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My first grade students would significantly benefit from having books at home to read. Having books available at home would help to improve their fluency, reading comprehension, and encourage a love for reading. As teachers, we know how important it is to encourage students to read at home. At times, we assign book reports not realizing that many our of students don't have access to a public library or books of their own.

My plan is for students to check out books from our take-home library in order to reinforce phonics skills taught in class.

The Junior Learning Decodable Readers would help students who are beginning to read sight words and simple CVC words. The Junior Learning books would help students learning more complex phonics skills. The Charge Into Reading Decodable Books would benefit ALL students as the books target a wide range of phonics skills. The baskets would be used to help students select their take home books based on their reading abilities.

Having access to books at home is critical for students the reading development.
