My Students

My school is located in Midtown Manhattan. I teach in a 2nd grade ICT (Integrated co-teaching) classroom which consists of students of all different abilities and cultures who learn in different ways. My co-teacher and I strive to provide a classroom full of books that excite students. Everyday provides new challenges and victories that help our students become successful throughout the school year. We believe that all our students are unique individuals with various learning styles. As teachers, it is our job to figure out how they learn best. Our 2nd graders have different interests and personalities that create a classroom community that fosters learning.

Due to the coroniavirus, students are doing most of their learning at home.

If school re-opens, students will be doing part of their learning at school and the other part remotely. Many students don't have access to enough books. We want to make sure that no matter where they are they are reading and continuing to grow.

My Project

Students spend 2nd grade becoming more sophisticated readers. Many of our students come into 2nd grade below grade level. Especially after remote learning, students will need to continuously read to catch up on their reading skills.

The guided reading books will help students become better readers.

These books will give students the options to read different stories with different characters. They will be able to practice the strategies they learn both at home and at school. These books will grow their love for reading.

Having a various range of guided reading books in the classroom will help our students grow. They will be able to have conversations with their classmates that help comprehension skills. These books will also allow the teachers to provide feedback to students to help them. If school is remote or blended in the fall, we will use put these books online so students have access to them. They will enjoy these books and never want to put them down!
