I teach third grade at a diverse, Title I school in southwest Florida. Sixty-one percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our students come from numerous cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Through lots of hard work, our school continues to help our students succeed.
I encourage lots of independent reading time in my classroom, and I expect my students to read from a range of genres.
I try to keep our classroom library organized by genre so that my students can easily find the books, authors, and series that they love. They love to read and get excited when we get new books!
My Project
For this project, I am requesting a variety of books that will help to expand and update our classroom library. I have included some new STEM series to engage my girls such as Zoey and Sassafras, Dory Fantasmagory, Goldie Blox, and Girls Who Code, historical fiction and non-fiction series that my readers will love such as Ranger in Time and The History of Fun Stuff, and a variety of other books.
According to Jim Trelease, author of The Read-Aloud Handbook, “The more you read, the better you get, the more better you get, the more you like it; and the more you like it, the more you do it.”
The more variety I can provide for my readers, the better chances I have of engaging and "hooking" each and every one of them. Thank you for helping me teach every child in my class to love reading!
