My Students

My elementary school is a small school in rural southern Virginia. It is a Title I school and has a diverse group students. The students are lively, caring, happy and curious.

The students each bring something unique to our classroom.

Some students are really good at math, and some are amazing at reading. While others students excel in science and social studies. Each student is an important part of our classroom environment and each student is needed to make our classroom a special place to be.

I would like my students to get the same benefits as students in a larger school. My students deserve the same chances to succeed!

My Project

Currently, in my classroom, I have a need for books that relate to our Science and Social Studies curriculum. I see that emphasis has been put on Math and Reading in the lower grades, but my students enjoy learning about Martin Luther King, Jr., simple machines and everything in between. I see a spark in some of my student's eyes when we get to discuss holidays they celebrate with their families or when we get to discuss states of matter.

I would like to incorporate Science and Social Studies into my reading block daily and having these books will help me do that!

I know that giving my students books to read about different topics that have peaked their interest will help them learn about the topics and also encourage their reading. I hope that these books will be engaging and educational for my students.

I also have included in this project a comfortable place for my students to sit while they read these books. I hope having two Big Joe bean bag chairs will make my classroom library feel a little cozier... everyone likes to cuddle up with a good book!
